THE BRIEF
Set within a beautifully restored Edinburgh townhouse, this project called for a kitchen that would complement the home's impressive architectural character while providing a sophisticated and practical space for family life and entertaining.
With its generous ceiling heights, original cornicing and elegant proportions, the room offered a beautiful foundation for a contemporary kitchen design. The brief was to create a space that felt considered and luxurious, balancing the demands of everyday family living with the flexibility required for hosting friends and family.
A key consideration was making the most of the room's long, generous proportions. The design needed to maximise storage and functionality without compromising the sense of openness, while creating a natural focal point for cooking, dining and socialising.
The clients were drawn to a rich, contemporary material palette, with an emphasis on natural textures, deep wood tones and luxurious stone. The finished kitchen needed to feel warm and inviting, with a strong design identity that complemented rather than competed with the original features of the townhouse.
THE DESIGN CONCEPT
The design centres around Leicht's Synthia collection in Textured Oak Chocolate, paired with beautiful Sensa granite worktops and splashbacks. The rich, tactile oak finish creates a striking contrast against the townhouse's light walls, original cornicing and pale herringbone flooring, bringing warmth and depth to the contemporary scheme.
The long proportions of the room were maximised through a full-height run of cabinetry, providing generous storage and seamlessly integrating the Siemens appliances. At the heart of the space, a substantial central island incorporates the BORA hob and offers ample preparation space, while generous seating creates a natural gathering point for family and guests. The island's positioning allows the kitchen to work effortlessly for everyday family life, from casual breakfasts to entertaining.
