“We just wanted it to be fun” – Ideal Home – April 2012

After more than 10 years living in their family home in Aberdeen, the Reynolds family were ready to make some changes. “We wanted to open the place up” says Derek. “The children were growing up and are all very sociable, so we wanted a bit more room so we could enjoy the kitchen space together”. As a family of keen cooks, the new kitchen had to be functional, to make cooking and clearing up a breeze. The kitchen’s slick lines were carefully chosen – Derek hates fuss and frippery. “I like contemporary design and admire good modern architecture” says Derek. “I’ve always been drawn to the latest in gadgetry so it was natural to go for something quite cutting edge”. The new space is informal and welcoming, thanks to its bold use of the bright orange. “I wanted to have a bit of fun and not take the project too seriously” says Derek. Now it’s the perfect space for relaxing as a family or for entertaining a crowd.

Stylish Living – The Herald – January 2012

Work surfaces need to be functional, but they must enhance the furniture too. “It’s recommended to use different work surfaces for different areas,” says Paul O’Brien from Kitchens International.

“One of the newest and most ‘in’ products is the ecofriendly Silestone, a natural quartz surface which has been treated and comes in a variety of colours.

“Another popular contemporary work surface is glass: it’s extremely durable and hygienic, and is available in a range of colours so can make a kitchen look very stylish.”

Ask the Designer – Utopia Magazine – December 2011

“We are building a new dream house and are now at the stage of deciding upon our kitchen. The area involved is to combine kitchen, dining and lounge/family area. Given the contemporary design of the house we are keen to choose a kitchen that is sympathetic to the style and timeless. We also love to cook and entertain at home, so the functionality of the kitchen is as important as the look. Having gone through the experience of previous fitted kitchens we are concerned about the smooth running of the project given the various parties involved, please let us know how the programming will work?”

Style Ideas Grey – Homes & Interiors Scotland July/Aug 2011

Up the cool stakes with a gun-metal coloured kitchen – it’s the smoking hot hue of the season.

Advice from the experts:

“Grey is definitely the new black in kitchens.  It’s a classic colour that works well within both contemporary and traditional situations. Although some shades can be dark, it looks great when combined with lighter colours providing contrast and style rather than uniformity.” – Paul O’Brien, Kitchens International

Westward Bound – Interiors Monthly – April 2011

Kitchens International has expanded to the west of Scotland with its fifth branch, in central Glasgow.  “Glasgow is a key market for us and until now we have serviced it from Edinburgh.  However, there is an increasing demand for high quality design, coupled with contemporary, aspirational kitchens in the west” says Paul O’-Brien, KI business development director.  He says many people are refurbishing their kitchens rather than moving house.

Turn Around – EKBB February 2011

Re-orientating the ground floor was a huge task, but one that resulted in a stunning new home.

“The new open-plan kitchen adjoins the atrium living room, creating an invitingly spacious area for the family to share.”

After 20 years of living in Hong Kong, Viv and Mark  Harris were excited about returning home to Edinburgh.  Except for one thing.  “We’d been spoilt by living in an apartment in Hong Kong with lots of natural light” says Viv.  “I was nervous that we would find our new house in Scotland dark and rather gloomy compared with what we were used to
